Walshaw Sports Club FC

U12’s - Blackpool 2008

Walshaw Under 12's have just returned from a successful weekend away in Blackpool, staying at the Marton Mere Holiday Park. The weekend was arranged following a similar trip last year, which combines some football with some team bonding and family fun!

13 families arrived on the Friday night to a wintry feeling Blackpool, where families who had taken heating appliances, and the two families who had been lucky enough to be allocated caravans with radiators, reaped immediate benefits. Those that hadn’t froze their socks off!! A few stiff drinks in the Club bar helped them take their minds off it. However, when Tom Jacksons mum decided to be Leona Lewis on the Karaoke machine, the retreat to ice boxes that was the caravans seemed like a good idea.

On the Saturday, the team travelled to Fleetwood Town to play an 11 a side game versus their under 12's. The wind was again gusting, and the lads played and excellent game and came out 2-0 winners thanks to goals from Marc Duffy and Tom Jackson. Our goalkeeper, Scott Haworth, achieved man of the match for some fine saves to keep us in front against a side that is challenging for the league title in the Blackpool and Fylde League.

Upon return to the warm(for some) caravans, the boys and girls all went swimming and had a great time doing what kids do best(spending all their parents money). The dads crammed into the bar for the Man Utd V Blackburn tea time kick off and the mothers made themselves look presentable for a Saturday night out.

On Sunday morning the gang, minus some mums and sisters, got up for an early kick off at nearby Foxhall Juniors. As we were not able to arrange a fixture with their under 12's team, a brave decision was made to play their under 13's team. When we arrived at the ground both John and I looked at the size differences and wondered if we'd done the right thing, but the boys did not disappoint. They fought out a credible 0-0 result playing some of the best football of this season. Our guest full back, and brother of Ryan, Dan Leeming, was man of the match for an excellent display.

It was then back to camp for more afternoon swimming/spending in the arcades and then back home to Bury. All involved agreed what an excellent trip it had been again this year we will certainly look to repeat it again next year, but will try to avoid falling out with our League Committee this time, but that's another story!!

Big thanks go out to both Fleetwood Town FC Under 12's and Foxhall Juniors Under 13's who were superb hosts for the weekend.
