Summer training

The Town Meadow is available for all our teams, however there must be NO TRAINING ON THE EVENINGS OF LADIES ROUNDERS We will confirm which nights the Ladies play as soon as possible. Alternatively King Georges can be used however please respect the Ladies Rounders and give them the space they need.

Player registrations

I would advise all managers and coaches to have the passport sized photos for any new players and all last seasons documents ready for registering for the 2008.2009 season as the League has toughened up on registration dates any team not having enough players registered by the deadline will NOT BE ENTERED IN THE LEAGUE UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. Please get this done whilst we are still playing it will save running around for details when players are away on holiday.

Newsletters

I express my thanks to Shaun Neil and all at Fi Printing and Duncan Holland for the collation of a fantastic newsletter for the Clubs 40^th Anniversary. Managers will be issued copies for all their players and parents at the next meeting.

Presentation nights

This being probably our last year at Heywood we would like to go out with a bang!!

Please give Aidy and myself your support with this grand finale. Volunteers are still needed for various rolls contact Aidy if you can give your help. Tickets will be issued at the next meeting and they are priced at £1.00 each this applies to everybody player’s parent’s sponsors etc.

Training for 2008/2009

I will sort the training rota out as soon as possible I have asked Andy Pickford to head up the search for outside lettings for the older age groups that require them. It is hoped that we can improve some of the time slots. It is also planned to leave 1 slot open at Walshaw for the Managers / Coaches to have a Kick around (Not Physically Bourney)

Social events

As you are all aware I am committed to help organise along with Duncan the Club Social Events as most of you can testify they are nights not to be missed, some of the artistes already booked are first class and that does not include Mark Dalton’s Comedy Capers!! There is a Christmas Special with the Dakotas why not book your team / Parents Christmas night out tickets can be reserved NOW to see one of the best band's around, Also look out for the 40^th Anniversary Specials these are advertised on the newsletter. If you can help sell any tickets contact myself or Duncan.

Walshaw Sports Club’s U13 Sporting Dinner Fund Raiser.

Former Liverpool striker John Aldridge was guest of honour at The Annual Sporting Dinner organised by the management team of the current Walshaw U13’s Team’s. The event raised £4,000.00. Many thanks to Ray Porter for all his work .

An update from Darren

First and foremost well done to the teams who have made into the finals this weekend, we still have a lot to play for on all fronts.

Paul’s Under 13s play a Manchester FA County Cup Semi Final next Sunday16th March,

Kevin and Jim’s under 14s are still top of the Bury & Radcliffe Premier League and are still undefeated.

Shaun and Big Dave’s 15s are still on course for promotion if not the championship.

Andy and John’s 12s continue to be a quality team who could be on the prize table come May.

In mini soccer Mark and Will’s 7s have had a great season and will be the team to beat next season whilst at under 9s John and Tony’s boys have had a difficult season but I’m certain they are learning and improving all the time.

Sorry if I’ve not mentioned your side but I and the Club appreciate your dedication and commitment

Future Stars Training

The last session of Future Stars coaching will take place on Saturday 15^th March with presentations to the children taking place on Sunday 16^th March 2008. This is to allow the Cricket section full use of the training facilities.

Future Stars will recommence with registration on Saturday 6^th September 2008 and coaching sessions from 13^th September. Boys and Girls welcome. We have invested in new equipment for the coming season. Please make use of this fantastic opportunity and tell your friends also.

Award Ceremony for Friends of Walshaw

Last week I had the pleasure of attending a presentation made to Dr Joyce Watson friend of and occasional visitor to Walshaw Sports Club and family friend of myself and my wife Michelle and partner of Club Welfare Officer Mark Turner. The award, for saving the life of a football supporter was presented by the High Sheriff of Lancashire and Judge Robert Brown.

Also present at the ceremony were Mark Turner & Director's of Accrington Stanley F.C.

“ A FOOTBALL club doctor who saved the life of a fan has been rewarded for her public spirited actions.

Dr Joyce Watson had been relaxing following match duties at Accrington Stanley when she rushed to deal with an emergency. Supporter Robert Taylor had been viciously attacked and Dr Watson gave him vital first aid, assisted by a number of others.

Yesterday she received a certificate from the High Sheriff of Lancashire, Ruth Winterbottom and £500 in a ceremony at Preston Crown Court.

But Dr Watson, from Burnley and Accrington Stanley's club doctor for six years, insisted she was only doing her job when she sprang into action following a game in April last year.

Dr Watson, who is a GP at a practice in Blackburn, was told by High Sheriff Ruth Winterbottom: "Your actions demonstrated not only great professionalism, but courage."
