Tournament Report - WSC U7 at the Bolton Wanderers FC Academy Tournament.
Wednesday 19th May 2010 - Bolton Wanderers Academy Tournament.
To cap off what has been a memorable and thoroughly enjoyable first season the team were invited to a round robin tournament held at the prestigious 3G Astroturf at Bolton Wanderers. For some of the team this was an opportunity to experience what "First Class" facilities are really like.
Sadly Michael was taken ill and couldn't make the event.
The team represented Bury and played 3 x 20 minute matches against Bolton Wanderers Academy, a team from Blackpool and a team from Liverpool.
The conditions were excellent and the pitches seemed gigantic - allowing the boys to play some great football.
In the first game 2 excellent goals from William, plus great defending from Alex, Han and Nathan, along with some fantastic saves by Samuel and then Luke gave the team a great 2 - 1 win. (Only afterwards were we informed that we were the first Partnership Club team to beat the Academy side!!)
The boys really put the effort in and it was only as the second and third matches took place that Jon, Steve and I realised just how much energy they put into the performance.
In the second game the team played against a club side from Liverpool, try as they might they couldn't find a goal and unfortunately lost the game by a single goal. The midfield of Elijah, Samuel, JJ and Bailey working hard but without reward.
The final game against the Blackpool side was an evenly matched affair with both team having chances to score.
Walshaw eventually losing to a long free kick into the area that was scrambled home.
Every single player gave 110% - not one of them was overawed by the occasion and Walshaw Sports Club can be proud of them. They received a certificate at the end and I'm sure the boys will display them proudly in their bedrooms as they sleep well after an exhausting evening's football enjoyed by all.
WELL DONE GUYS.
Thanks Mike, Jon and Steve
