Match Report - WSC U7 v Elton & Walshaw Alleycats U7
Saturday 17th April 2010 - played at Bury College
It was the day of the most eagerly anticipated local derby of the weekend and also there was a small matter of the Man City v Man Utd fixture as well!
The Alleycats had been promoted from the lower division earlier in the season and had developed a great reputation as a good footballing side.
Pre-match word was that both teams would be missing a key player but this did not stop the boys in each side producing a fantastic game. For those Manchester fans who spent money watching the game at Eastlands they would have been better off at the pitches at Bury College.
The weather was ideal and the pitch in great condition (the days of the ice and rain seem months ago now!)
WSC started the game in fantastic form. They had numerous attacks led by Captain for the Day William. With Bailey and JJ (back in the side after a few weeks away) it only seemed a matter of time before the deadlock would be broken and what a way to do that.
Samuel, with all the passing vision of the old Liverpool legend Jan Molby, (I had to get that in at sometime in the season!)fed Bailey who passed the ball forward for William to produce the coolest finish of the season- as the goalkeeper came out he fainted to shoot before dragging the ball round him and slotting it into the net. If only we had a film crew it really was that good for a boy of his age!
With Alex away the team relied heavily on Nathan, the non-stop running of Han and Samuel to keep the Alleycats a bay. As the game went on Walshaw seemed to tire and after a spate of corners the Alleycats drew level just before half time when they scrambled a corner over the line despite the best efforts of Luke.
The second half began much like the first half, Walshaw dominating possession but failing to make the most of their opportunities. It seemed inevitable but just like Utd would later on in the day, the Alleycats broke from midfield as Walshaw’s usual passing game broke down, and the Alleycats Player of the Match (Number 10) ran free and finished powerfully over the diving Luke.
Despite going all out on attack for an equaliser Walshaw just couldn't break through and the game finished with the Alleycats taking the spoils.
Walshaw's Parents Players of the Match were the deservedly the defensive duo of Nathan and Han.
Attendance was 28.
Thanks
Mike
