Saturday 21st February 2010 - Played at Bridge due to frozen pitch at Walshaw.

This proved to be a very tricky encounter that really tested the character and attitude of the boys. In conversation with the Bridge manager after the game their team have had some good results this season - beating the impressive Radcliffe and running Chadderton close.

With Luke still away - captain for the day Samuel played in goal again and in a busy first half Bridge proved to be a very useful side. Their goal keeper had an outstanding game and with a strong kick the WSC defence of Nathan and Alex had to keep alert.

Bridge had their very won Rory Delap whose long throw in's took WSC by surprise. They attacked well in the first half winning corner after corner and eventually their pressure paid off - claiming the lead with a well taken goal.

WSC relied heavily on the busy Han in midfield whose willingness to run and run meant that Bridge couldn't have it all their own way. Bailey, JJ and the skilful Michael had some good possession down the wings but in the first half their usual accurate passing seemed to be missing. Bridge took their opportunities well and got a second before half time. Could this be the end of WSC's unbeaten run of 13 games??

Half time couldn't come soon enough and gave the boys an opportunity to get organised and what a change in the second half!

The team were unrecognisable!

The defenders were strong in the tackle - clearing any sign of danger. The midfield battled hard and all of a sudden the passing game that was missing appeared.

WSC got a goal back through Bailey, displaying great skill in midfield and shooting well into the corner. Bridge remained a threat throughout the game but Samuel was not to be beaten again. Nathan, ever willing to get forward, came close to equalising with a great shot from outside the box. Elijah was a different player in the second half - winning every tackle and finding his team mates with his passing.

The second goal would surely come but some great keeping and a goal line clearance by a defender meant that the manager's fingernails were bitten right down! With time running out there was no choice but to go all out on the attack - JJ, Bailey and William (the teams top scorers this season) were all up front. William and JJ went close with several efforts and finally a ball out wide on the right broke to William who cooly slotted home.

WSC pressed hard for a winner but a last minute point blank save from the Bridge keeper - their Man of the Match, meant that the game finished a deserved 2 - 2.

Parents Man of the Match - went to the whole team and rightly so!

Attendance 32 - aged from several weeks to 70 years!

Thanks

Mike & Jon
