Saturday 6th February 2010 WSC U7 v Little Lever U7 (Played at Little Lever)

What a great game of football!

Walshaw's home pitch fell victim once again to the frost! Thankfully Little Lever's pitch was free and in great nick, allowing an eagerly anticipated fixture to go ahead. Walshaw defending an unbeaten run in the division against Little Lever - newly promoted and a team that proved to be well worth a place in the top league.

Unusually for WSC we started brightly and went a goal up in the first few minutes with Man of the Match Luke and then Bailey combining passes to release the "free scoring" JJ to run in on goal and finish cooly in the bottom corner. The WSC fans may have thought that the early goal was a sign of things to come - how wrong they were!

Little Lever are a really strong, physical side and have some fantastic players. This proved to be a really hard and well contested match. The WSC defence certainly knew they had their work cut out.

Han then Alex and the hard working Nathan worked tirelessly and proved how well organised a unit with their rock of a goalkeeper they are.

Chances were few and far between in the first half, Will having a good shot that went just wide.

The first half finished 1 - 0 and the second half began in much the same way. Little Lever bossing the midfield for large amounts of the time and WSC trying to catch them on the break. Luke's long kicks proving a really useful alternative to create chances. For me Little Lever's Man of the Match - a defender who was covering in goal - produced some fine saves to stop WSC scoring more.

WSC managed to go 2 up when Bailey showed what a natural finisher he is - even when playing in midfield. He showed great anticipation, latching on to a shorts goal kick and simply hitting it over the keeper from about 18 yards!

WSC certainly needed that second goal as Little Lever continued to press.

Luke produced a virtually faultless display, preventing their attackers from scoring right until the final seconds when Little Lever worked the ball well down the left and scored in the corner. It was not enough in the end with WSC winning the game by an odd goal in three!Really well done to all the boys from both teams-this is what Saturday morning's are all about.

Parents Man of the Match was Luke.

Crowd Attendance- 27

Thanks
